VA ACADEMY BELT & STRIPE SYSTEM
At VA Academy, student progress is evaluated daily through consistency, effort, attitude, discipline, attendance, and overall understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
As students reach important milestones in their training journey, they may be recognized with stripes awarded by a VA Academy Professor on their current belt rank.
While stripes and promotions reflect technical development, advancement is never based on attendance alone.
Factors considered during promotion include:
• technical understanding
• consistency and effort
• discipline and attitude
• training habits and mat etiquette
• growth on and off the mats
Once a student earns four stripes, they may become eligible for promotion to the next belt rank. However, every student develops differently and promotions are always based on individual progress and readiness.
VA Academy Professors maintain full discretion when awarding stripes and belt promotions in order to preserve the integrity, standards, and values of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Our goal is to encourage long-term growth, humility, discipline, and continuous improvement throughout each student’s journey on the mats.
At VA Academy, we adhere to the graduation system established by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF).
